(Mar 8-9) Searle's Raid 17th Century re-enactment of Captain Robert Searle Raid of St Augustine. Annual event commemorates the bloody pirate raid led by Robert Searle (AKA John Davis) against the city and inhabitants of St. Augustine in 1668. Encampment setup for participants will take place on Thursday afternoon, February 28. To introduce the event, a parade of participants will begin on St. George Street next to the Cathedral Basilica at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1 and proceed to the grounds next to the Santo Domingo Redoubt. During the day on Saturday, March 2, 17th century weapons, clothing, equipment, camp life and social activities will be shown and demonstrated to and for the general public at the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Freebooters and city’s Spanish defenders will join in battle in St. Augustine’s historic district beginning at 5:00 in the evening. The encampment will be taken down on Sunday, March 3. (Mar 1) St Augustine Lighthouse Night Fest will be held on March 2, 2013 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. The Junior Service League’s Michelob Ultra 5k Walk and Fun Run kicks off the Night Fest at 4 p.m. See the historic, French, lighthouse lens come alive at dusk in the lighthouse tower and enjoy the stars coming out. A special program on navigation by the stars will be held in the Lighthouse Gallery with support from Sea Your History and the Smithsonian Institution Affiliations Program. Night Fest is the beginning of a new local cooking competition which will feature a signature local cuisine. This year’s competition will focus on Minorcan Pilau.
